| For the Writer and the Story Executive, understanding what each other wants, says, means and needs can be the most difficult part of the delicate development process. Both share a goal, but differing motivations, pressures, terminology, and psychology often leave fatal misunderstandings between the screenwriter and the person charged with getting the script "fixed". But development doesn't have to be "hell". | With practical lessons drawn from a decade of pitch-to-release experience in the A-list feature world, Richwood straight-talks you through the couch meeting, the table meeting, the put-off, the rave, and other mixed-signal details of the impossible business of development for a producer, director or studio. |
| We've been thankful to
learn from several guest speakers, including: producer Gary W. Goldstein (The Goldstein Company), director Rob Minkoff (THE LION KING, STUART LITTLE), writer/director Randall Fontana (FAREWELL MY LOVE), producer Peter Ward (PopArt Films) and Universal Studios executive Romy Kaufman. The intimate class size allows you to get all of your questions answered and really connect with the guests and the instructor. |
Story Executives learn
how to prioritize notes, "read" the writer’s rewrite ability, sell
their boss on the draft, omit "speed bumps" on the script, determine their role
on their team, coddle and translate studio-babble. Writers learn how to read between, under, behind and through the lines of what they are being told -- and how to do a good rewrite despite all of it. Together, they learn to work with each other as partners in their careers, not as necessary evils. |
| This rigorous and irreverent course will demystify the process by recreating the relationship in the classroom and dissecting each stage of development from both perspectives, giving writers and executives the insight and tools to get results from each other. | |
